Terrorist attacks, organized crime, drug and human trafficking, illegal border crossings, and related violence dominate the news. Border cooperation between the United States and Mexico has not reduced the risk to our citizens’ physical security. Some have called this the United States Mexico Modern Border War. The events of the Paris attacks of November 13, 2015, are a grave reminder of the importance of protecting a nation’s borders. New security strategies are needed, and the continual education of all homeland security practitioners is vital to keeping people safe.
