Hello and welcome to Brainmass.com! While Brainmass cannot complete assignments for students, what we can do is provide you with advice and a template of how your answer might be constructed.
In the first question, you are simply asked WHICH causes seem to contribute to Ellis’s racism. Parillo’ six possible causes of prejudice are, briefly stated, “authoritarian personality, self-justification, frustration, economic competition, socialization, and social norms.” From what can be ascertained in the Studs Terkel interview with Ellis, the most likely causes that bear on Ellis’s case appear to be authoritarian personality, self-justification, frustration, and economic competition.
Socialization can also be argued, because Ellis’s father was a Klan member (therefore racism would have been a condition in Ellis’s home life). “Social norms” can also be a factor: Eliis was raised in Depression-Era North Carolina, in a time and place where Klan activity, and other signs of the social normality of racist attitudes, were widespread among lower-income, marginally-educated Southern white communities like his own. It is up to you to decide which are the STRONGEST causes of Ellis’s racism. As for most racists, ALL Parillo’s theories play a role in his racism to a greater or lesser extent.
In the second and third question of the four in your assignment, you are asked variants of the same thing, which amounts to your needing to explain and give examples that support your assertions in question #1 above. Here is an example of how one student explained how Ellis’s explanation of his own racism demonstrates influence of Parillo’s “authoritarian personality” theory:
“C.P. Ellis can relate to the authoritarian personality, which is the first of Parrillo’s six theories. Because they were poor, C.P. is always ashamed to be seen with his father, because of the way he …
