Each student will read Part I of the textbook, book is Jackie Robinson and Race in America. Introduction: America’s Great Experiment of Baseball Integration (pp. 1-41) and then add 1 document to your previous choice of 2 documents that you wrote about in the Robinson essays. Or, choose entirely different documents, as long as there are a total of three. You must also include an image that illustrates your argument – search the internet! You may chose to incorporate your prior, first two essays into your final Robinson Research Paper, plus add another a document. Or, you may choose three different documents and write your Robinson Research Paper based on those. Either way, once you choose your three documents you must be assigned these documents, so make sure you inform the TA of your choice to receive approval. You will then integrate the documents into an essay and write a critique of race and racism, civil rights, or the legacy of Jackie Robinson based on those documents. Use your chosen and approved documents as evidence to answer the following questions: Was and is America a hopelessly racist place? Why was there, and is there, racism in the country? What did Jackie Robinson’s experience tell us about race relations in America? Provide context/history/background, and then make an argument. Here are the requirements: 5-pages (this may include the image or you may append it to 5 pages of text), double-spaced, 12-point font. The paper must include a listing of the three documents at the top of the first page, and a title of your essay. Make a good argument; be creative!
