An Indian’s Perspective
In a well-worded 500 word (minimum) essay, free of spelling, sentence and grammar errors, please answer the following questions. 1. What do you think Chief Joseph was looking to say to the US Congress when he gave this famous speech? Was he correct in his perspective about how his people had been and were being treated? 2. After his defeat against the US Army in Pacific Northwest in 1877, the Chief famously said “I will fight no more forever.” What do you think he meant by this and was it a sensible (or tragic) thing to say? Did he have a choice? 3. What were the only options for men like Chief Joseph and all Indians at this time in American history? Did they make poor choices or were they basically at the mercy of the ever-more powerful and numerous white settlers?
