For this project you will be giving a detailed presentation on an ocean phenomenon of your choice. You will make a PowerPoint presentation with figures and/or pictures and the descriptions listed below in a caption format. Presentations should be 5-10 minutes and is done in front of the class. This is a relatively open-ended project and you have a lot of creative freedom. I want you do something that you like and makes you excited –that really is key for success.. By October 27th: Come in with 3-5 viable sources and a rough outline. This will be counted towards the ‘project’portion of your grade. Overall, this project is worth more than an exam. The point is to get you to have fun, be creative and do some good research on an area of interest. You are in an oceanography class, you likely care at least a little bit about the ocean.     Expectations and grading rubric: 1.Introduction/Motivation –10 pointsGive a reason as to why you chose this particular type of phenomena. Provide a simple introduction.    2.Description of the phenomena –20 pointsGive a detailed description as to why, where, when it occurs, impacts of the occurrence  3.Give examples or provide a case study –15pointsProvide a particular case study (for example if you choose a specific hurricane, discuss the atmospheric conditions that allowed it to occur, why so destructive, impacts of destruction, etc.) 4.Conclusions –10 pointsWhat conclusions can you draw from this? How can we prepare for things like this in future?5.References –10 pointsAt least 3 VIABLE sources. Wiki does not count –use the sources that are given within wiki. Any .gov, .edu and/or .org website is usually pretty good. www.scholar.google.comis a great resource as well, though those articles can be really dense   .6.Figures with your own captions –15pointsMake charts or use others, but provide your own caption to describe it 7.Presentation ability, put together and not rushed–20 pointsAre you prepared?
